Story of The First Love Marriage In The World

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.”

That’s indeed a great saying. Marriage is the starting of a new life with a new partner. No matter who we are or what we do, we all want our life partners to be the same as us.

It’s not always possible to arrange a marriage. That’s why nowadays people are choosing a love marriage compared to an ordinary arranged marriage. But, it is not a brand new matter.

Love marriage is not contemporary. It is very old and that’s what we shall talk over in this article. In this article, we shall discuss the first love marriage in the world.

First love marriage in India and other Asian Countries

Love marriage in European countries showed a peak from the 15-16 century but in India and other Asian countries, it began to happen very slowly.

In fact, some research was conducted to find out when the first love marriage was conducted in India. Researchers got to know that the first love marriage in India was conducted in the 20th century

But, at the initial stage, it was not at all acceptable for families and parents. In the decade of 1970s love marriage became popular in India.

There is also a saying that Hindu Lord Shiva and Sati (/Parbati) got married together. And, the fact is widely accepted among the people from Hinduism.

But, due to the lack of evidence many people from other religions don’t believe in it. Let me explain the story here.

Story of The First Love Marriage In The World: Shiva-Sati

Shiva marriage was not an ordinary marriage. It was about the culmination of love, dedication and tenacity. The world’s biggest love story fails in front of this story. So, now we shall discuss the love story of Lord Shiva and Parvati.

But this story is not of one birth. Even in her previous birth, Parvati was Shiva’s wife and was the daughter of Prajapati Daksha. Her name was Sati.

As per Puranas, Sati was the favourite child of Daksha and was married Shiva against her father’s wishes.

The conflict between Daksha and Shiva gets to a point where Daksha does not invite Shiva to his yagna (fire sacrifice).

When Sati comes on her own Daksha insults Shiva. Then Sati immolates herself at the ceremony.

This incident shocks Shiva, who is so grief-stricken and he loses his interest in worldly affairs and retires. And then he isolates himself in the mountains, in meditation and austerity.

After Sati’s death, she was reincarnated as Parvati. She was a beautiful daughter of Himavat (the god and king of the Himalaya mountains) and Mainavati. Whenever Sati sported in the mountains, Mena and Himavat used to take care of her.

Parvati was very well educated and beautiful. Since her childhood, she was passionately devoted to Lord Shiva.

Even she preferred praying to Lord Shiva, instead of playing with her friends.

Admirer came from different parts of the country to marry her. But Parvati rejected all of them.

She only wanted to marry Lord Shiva and no one else.

Hope now you got the answer to your question, who is the first love of Shiva? Its Sati.

1st love marriage in other histories

According to data from different sources across the globe, the first love marriage was conducted somehow in 2350 B.C. And, if compared to today, the incident of the first love marriage occurred about 4,350 years ago.

But, there are many controversies over it and there is no strong evidence about it as marriage was not a crucial matter in that ancient time.

According to data from Wikipedia, the concept of love marriage evolved around the year 1100 in Europe. But, there is strong evidence in a letter that tells that in Europethe first love marriage occurred in 1140 AD.

Another data says that the great philosopher, Rousseau wrote in his book about the first love marriage in the world that happened in the 12th century.

It was about a philosopher who married his student – of course, it must be a love marriage, not an arranged one.

Now, let’s get back to the first love marriage of which we have already discussed above (that happened back in the past 2350 B.C.) was conducted in Mesopotamia.

It was situated in western Asia, near the river Tigris & Euphrates. It is now located in the region of the country Iran & Iraq.

There was no matter of religion, caste then. As these things got implemented into society, people tried to break the fence of barriers to these things. So the concept and as well as the number of love marriages began to grow.

Coming back to our original story of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati again.

They created a devotional relationship whether it is love or devotional emotion.

It was the first instance of love marriage in history or mythology.

You may belong to any religion. All religions have their own philosophy. But, after going through this mythological story, you must recognize the inner beauty of love and marriage
